Elon Musk tweeted that Tesla has a chance of being the most valuable company "perhaps within a few months" but then deleted the tweet.
"I think there is a 0% more chance for Tesla to be the most valuable company," Musk tweeted over the weekend. About three minutes later, he added a more specific time than "within a few months". Soon after, he quickly deleted the second tweet, but the screenshot went viral on the Internet.
Tesla's market capitalization is currently close to $ 600 billion, while Apple's is at $ 2.03 trillion.
According to CNBC, posting tweets and deleting is unusual for Musk. However, the Tesla CEO may have to be cautious because of his several troubles with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
In 2018, he hinted at his intention to buy all shares of Tesla listed on the stock exchange, in order to make Tesla a private company. Prior to this news, Tesla's stock price rose 12%. However, the SEC has investigated and sued, arguing the tweets are securities fraud, costing Musk a fine of $ 20 million.
Recently, a Tesla shareholder sued Musk for posting tweets that cost shareholders billions of dollars. For example, in May 2020, he said that "Tesla's share price is too high", causing Tesla's stock to drop 10%.
